Key Elements

  • At least two different social groups - I will use the representation of male and female in my music video. This will be achieved by including both male and female members of the music group. This is a progressive representation as it demonstrates that anybody can be involved in music and in a music group, no mater their gender. The female in my video will be playing a guitar which goes against the stereotype of men playing instruments in bands, as it would be uncommon to see a women playing an instrument in a band. This is an important representation as I am demonstrating that women are equally capable of playing an instrument and the representation challenges the stereotypes of gender roles in music.
  • Intertextuality - my video will include intertextual references to both The Verve and The White Stripes. I will achieve the intertextual reference to The Verve by starting my video with the artists waling through a street, referencing the Bitter Sweet Symphony music video. This opening shot will be presenting the artist as everyday, common people and will demonstrate the group forming by the fact that each group member will join the lead singer in walking down the street as they progress along the street. I will also reference the White Stripes through references to the 'Hardest Button To Button' music video. My video will pay homage to this song by using the cutting technique where the artists move along with the beat of the song.

  • At least two different locations - I am going to use multiple locations because my video is based on the changing of locations in oder to see the progression of venues that the band are playing in.
